How to Ask for Travel Recommendations in Brazilian Portuguese
Move beyond asking “Where should I go?” with a few questions that help someone recommend a destination that fits your interests.

The short answer
Start with a broad question such as Que lugares você recomenda conhecer? (What places do you recommend visiting?). Then add one detail about your plans: how many days you have, what kind of scenery you enjoy, or whether you prefer a city or a quieter place.
Ask for an idea, then narrow it down
This makes the conversation easier for the other person. It also gives you a natural follow-up instead of expecting one question to produce a complete itinerary.
What place do you recommend for a short trip?
Prefiro cidades menores. Você tem alguma sugestão?
I prefer smaller cities. Do you have a suggestion?
What can you see in three days?
Explain the trip you have in mind
Use gosto de or prefiro to describe your interests, then ask a question. You might want a beach, outdoor activities, museums, food, or time to rest. These are personal preferences, not a checklist every visitor needs to follow.
When you hear a place name you do not know, ask where it is or what makes it interesting. A short follow-up helps you understand the recommendation and keeps the exchange conversational.
I like nature and want to visit a quiet city.
Prefiro viajar de ônibus. É fácil chegar lá?
I prefer to travel by bus. Is it easy to get there?
What do you like doing most in that area?
Keep the recommendation conversation moving
Repeat one detail to show what you understood, then ask about the next useful point. If someone mentions a town, you can ask how long to stay or what kind of activity they enjoy there. You can also explain that you are still deciding.
I Speak Portuguese has a separate guide built around talking about a trip. This article focuses on the question-and-follow-up pattern; for practical language once you are on the road, continue with the travel guides on this site.
Entendi. Você ficaria lá por quantos dias?
I see. How many days would you stay there?
I’m still deciding, but that idea sounds great.
I’ll look into it a little and tell you later.
Put it into practice
Ask one recommendation question, explain a preference, and use a follow-up about time or activities. Replace the sample details with the trip you actually want.
