At a Brazilian Supermarket: Ask for an Aisle, Buy Produce, and Check Out
A few clear questions can help you shop even when you do not know the layout or every product name.

The short answer
Onde fica…? means “Where is…?” and works well when you know the item you are looking for. You can also ask Onde eu encontro…? (Where can I find…?). If you do not know the product word, show a picture or describe what you need.
Find a product with a short question
Com licença, onde fica o arroz?
Excuse me, where is the rice?
Onde eu encontro o leite?
Where can I find the milk?
Fica em qual corredor?
Which aisle is it in?
Ask how produce is sold
Some fruits and vegetables are priced by weight. Ask Quanto custa o quilo? to find out how much a kilogram costs, or request a smaller quantity with meio quilo. Store routines differ, so if you are unsure whether to weigh the item yourself, ask where to do it.
Quanto custa o quilo do tomate?
How much is a kilo of tomatoes?
Quero meio quilo, por favor.
I’d like half a kilo, please.
Onde eu peso isso?
Where do I weigh this?
Use a checkout phrase and confirm what you need
At checkout, É só isso means “That’s all.” If someone asks whether you need a bag, sacola is the everyday word for bag in this context. You can answer simply and add por favor or obrigado/obrigada as appropriate for how you refer to yourself.
É só isso, obrigada. Preciso de uma sacola.
That’s all, thank you. I need a bag.
Não, obrigado. Quanto ficou?
No, thank you. How much is it?
