The short answer
Processo seletivo means admissions or selection process, and candidatura means application. State the program and term you applied for, then include the reference number if the university gave you one.
Identify yourself and the program
Use the contact channel listed by the institution. Admissions offices may separate undergraduate, graduate, and international applications.
Enviei minha candidatura para o curso de biologia no próximo semestre.
I submitted my application for the biology program for next semester.
Meu número de inscrição é 4821. Poderia confirmar o recebimento?
My application number is 4821. Could you confirm receipt?
Ask what stage the application is in
Use situação da candidatura for application status and prazo para resposta for response timeline. Ask which stage is current instead of assuming that a missing email means your application is incomplete.
If a document appears missing, name the document and ask how to resend it through the university's official process.
Você pode me informar em que etapa está a seleção?
Could you tell me what stage the selection process is at?
O histórico escolar foi recebido corretamente?
Was the academic transcript received correctly?
Confirm the next step and expected date
Ask se há alguma pendência (whether anything is outstanding) and when to check for an update. Application schedules differ by program and institution, so follow the date the admissions office gives you.
Summarize the answer and keep the contact name or protocol number with your application records.
Há alguma pendência que eu precise resolver?
Is there anything outstanding that I need to resolve?
Qual é a previsão para a próxima atualização?
When is the next update expected?
Put it into practice
Name your program and reference number, ask about the current stage, and confirm the next step with the admissions office.
