The short answer
Se dar bem means to get along well or have a good relationship. Follow it with com and the person or group. The pronoun changes with the subject: me dou, você se dá, nós nos damos.
Use se dar bem with someone you have a good relationship with
Eu me dou bem com meus colegas de trabalho.
I get along with my coworkers.
Ela se dá muito bem com a irmã.
She gets along very well with her sister.
Say that two people do not get along
Add não to make the expression negative. To describe a current tension, say não estão se dando bem. This focuses on the relationship rather than labeling either person.
Meus vizinhos não se dão muito bem.
My neighbors don’t get along very well.
A equipe não está se dando bem neste projeto.
The team isn’t getting along well on this project.
Distinguish a good relationship from good performance
Se dar bem can also mean to do well at something when the context is a task or subject: ela se dá bem em matemática. With com + a person, it usually means getting along with that person.
Ele se dá bem com os clientes.
He gets along well with clients.
Ela se dá bem em matemática.
She does well in math.
Put it into practice
Use se dar bem com someone for a good relationship, and se dar bem em a subject for doing well at it.
