The short answer
Use faltei à aula to say I missed class. Name the subject, day, or professor if the classmate attends several courses with you.

A brief explanation is enough. You can say you were absent without sharing a private reason.
Faltei à aula de biologia ontem.
I missed biology class yesterday.
Não consegui chegar à aula de hoje.
I wasn’t able to make it to class today.

Ask about one useful piece of material
Instead of asking for everything, ask about a specific item: the topic, a set of slides, the homework, or an announcement. A focused question is faster to answer and helps you make a plan to catch up.
If you need to borrow notes, ask whether the classmate is comfortable sharing them and when they are available. Do not assume that another student's work is yours to copy.

Check the next class and where information is posted
Ask whether a deadline, reading, or room change was announced. Confirm details in the official class platform or with the instructor so you do not rely on a secondhand message for an important update.
If the notes are unclear, ask one follow-up question or contact the professor. You can thank your classmate without making them responsible for teaching the whole missed lesson.
