Portuguese for a Photography Walk: Describe a Scene and Ask Permission
Use photography vocabulary to describe a scene, compare shots, and ask before photographing another person.

The short answer
Luz means light, sombra is shadow, and enquadramento is framing or composition. A close-up can be called um close; a photo taken from farther away is uma foto de longe.
Describe light and composition
Use these nouns to explain what you are trying to capture. The vocabulary also helps when someone suggests another angle or asks why you chose a particular framing.
Quero fotografar a luz no fim da tarde.
I want to photograph the light in the late afternoon.
Este enquadramento mostra melhor a fachada.
This framing shows the facade better.
Ask a companion about the shot
Ask Qual ângulo você prefere? (Which angle do you prefer?) or Você consegue ver a sombra aqui? (Can you see the shadow here?). These short questions invite another person to look at the same detail.
Compare two versions with esta foto and aquela foto. Use mais clara for lighter and mais nítida for sharper when you are discussing image quality.
Você gosta mais desta foto ou daquela?
Do you like this photo or that one better?
A segunda ficou mais nítida.
The second one turned out sharper.
Ask permission before photographing a person
If a person will be identifiable, ask permission with Posso tirar uma foto sua? (May I take a photo of you?). Explain the intended use if you plan to share or publish the image, and respect a no without pressing for a reason.
A photography walk may pass through private or restricted spaces. Follow the host's instructions and any posted rules before taking pictures.
Você se importa se eu tirar uma foto?
Do you mind if I take a photo?
Tudo bem se eu compartilhar a foto com o grupo?
Is it okay if I share the photo with the group?
Put it into practice
Describe the scene with light and framing vocabulary, and ask permission clearly before making or sharing a portrait.
