Use four weekly milestones to move from first sounds to a short, supported conversation in Brazilian Portuguese.

The short answer
Thirty days is enough to build a useful foundation, not to become fluent. Choose a small daily session you can repeat: listen to a short piece of Brazilian Portuguese, practice a few phrases aloud, and review words from earlier days. Consistency gives you more chances to notice and reuse language.
Set a realistic target for the first month
Give each week one focus. Week one is for sounds and survival phrases; week two adds a few high-frequency verbs; week three turns phrases into questions and simple interactions; week four combines them in short conversations. Adjust the pace if you need more review.
Estou começando a aprender português.
I’m beginning to learn Portuguese.
Pode falar mais devagar, por favor?
Could you speak more slowly, please?
Ainda estou praticando esta frase.
I’m still practicing this sentence.
Build one small milestone into every week
At the end of week one, read a short list aloud and compare your rhythm with native audio. At the end of week two, introduce yourself with your name, where you are from, and one thing you like. These tasks turn vocabulary into something you can retrieve without looking at a list.
In week three, practice a simple order and a directions question. In week four, combine a greeting, a follow-up question, and a clarification request in a two-minute role-play. A successful milestone means you communicated the idea; it does not require perfect grammar.
Meu nome é Alex e eu moro em Toronto.
My name is Alex and I live in Toronto.
Pode me trazer um café, por favor?
Could you bring me a coffee, please?
Como chego à estação?
How do I get to the station?
Review more than you add
A beginner’s plan should make space for retrieval. Before studying a new phrase, try to recall yesterday’s phrases without looking. Then listen to them in natural speech and notice which sounds connect or soften. Keep only words that support your next conversation goal.
If you miss a day, resume with a short review rather than doubling the workload. At day 30, repeat your week-one introduction and compare what feels easier. For another learning path, I Speak Portuguese has the broader roadmap linked as the source for this original adaptation.
Você pode repetir a última parte?
Could you repeat the last part?
Eu entendi a ideia principal.
I understood the main idea.
Ainda preciso praticar essa palavra.
I still need to practice that word.
Put it into practice
Use four weekly focuses and one spoken milestone each week. The 30-day goal is a stronger foundation and a short, supported conversation, not fluency.
