The short answer

Begin with a greeting, introduce the topic, and explain what listeners will learn. Hoje vou falar sobre… (Today I’m going to talk about…) is a clear opening frame.

Open with the topic and purpose

A short opening gives listeners a map before you explain the details.

Bom dia. Hoje vou falar sobre o projeto.

Good morning. Today I’m going to talk about the project.

O objetivo desta apresentação é explicar três etapas.

The goal of this presentation is to explain three steps.

Primeiro, vou mostrar os resultados.

First, I’ll show the results.

Use signposts to organize the main points

Use primeiro, depois, and por fim to signal the order of your ideas. These transitions help listeners follow the talk even if they miss a word.

Keep each point focused and use an example or visual when it helps explain the idea.

O segundo ponto é o prazo.

The second point is the timeline.

Agora vou explicar como funciona.

Now I’ll explain how it works.

Por fim, vamos falar dos próximos passos.

Finally, we’ll discuss the next steps.

Close and invite questions

Use era isso (that’s it) or obrigado pela atenção (thank you for your attention) to signal that your presentation is ending. Then invite questions.

If you do not understand a question, ask the speaker to repeat it or say it another way. Our work-meeting guide has more language for taking turns and clarifying.

Era isso que eu queria apresentar.

That’s what I wanted to present.

Obrigado pela atenção. Alguém tem alguma pergunta?

Thank you for your attention. Does anyone have a question?

Pode repetir a última parte, por favor?

Could you repeat the last part, please?

Put it into practice

Practice a 30-second presentation with one opening, three signposts, and a closing that invites questions.
