Arrange a Playdate in Portuguese: Time, Place, and Pickup

Use clear phrases to invite another family, compare schedules, and agree on a practical plan for children to meet.

The short answer

There is no single everyday Portuguese word that covers every use of ‘playdate.’ A clear invitation is Quer marcar um encontro para as crianças brincarem? (Would you like to arrange a time for the children to play?). You can also name the activity or location.

Make a friendly invitation

Keep the invitation easy to answer by suggesting a day and asking what works for the other family.

As crianças querem brincar no parquinho no sábado?

Would the children like to play at the playground on Saturday?

Qual horário funciona melhor para vocês?

What time works best for you?

Confirm the meeting and pickup details

Combine encontrar (to meet) with a place: Vamos nos encontrar na entrada? means ‘Shall we meet at the entrance?’ Ask what time the children should be picked up and who will be there.

Repeat the address or landmark in a message so everyone has the same information. If plans change, use avisar to say you will let the other parent know.

Eu busco as crianças às quatro?

Should I pick up the children at four?

Se houver algum atraso, eu aviso vocês.

If there is a delay, I'll let you know.

Ask what would help the children feel comfortable

If you are hosting, ask what the children enjoy doing and whether they should bring anything. Keep questions about food or care specific and let the other parent describe any needs.

Avoid assuming that children have the same schedule or preferences. A simple check-in gives the other family a chance to clarify what would make the visit easy.

O que eles gostam de fazer juntos?

What do they like doing together?

Precisa trazer alguma coisa?

Do they need to bring anything?

Put it into practice

Suggest a time and activity, then confirm the meeting point, pickup plan, and anything the children may need.
