Pick a situation you actually want to handle, such as ordering lunch or greeting a friend. Open a short lesson and listen once before reading the translation. Can you tell who is speaking and what they want?

This adapts I Speak Portuguese’s app-selection checklist into a quick lesson test. Focus on one activity rather than comparing a long list of features before you know what helps you learn.

Hide the text and make a response from memory
After listening, hide the answer and try to say one response aloud. Then replay the audio and compare the meaning and rhythm. The point is not to sound native; it is to find out whether the lesson asks you to recall language rather than only recognize it.
If you cannot remember the phrase, note what support would help: another example, a slower replay, or a chance to use it in a short exchange. That gives you a practical basis for choosing a study tool.
