The short answer
Start with fomos (we went), fui (I went), or fizemos uma trilha (we hiked a trail). Add where or when: no fim de semana (on the weekend), perto de… (near…), or em uma área de mata (in a forested area). This gives the listener a frame before you add details.
Set the scene with where and when
You do not need a long story. Two clear details can be enough to start a conversation.
No sábado, fizemos uma trilha perto de Belo Horizonte.
On Saturday, we hiked a trail near Belo Horizonte.
Fui a uma cachoeira com alguns amigos.
I went to a waterfall with a few friends.
Connect the events in order
Primeiro means first, depois means then or afterward, and no final means in the end. Use them to connect a few actions without searching for a complicated connector.
Common verbs for a trip include chegamos (we arrived), subimos (we climbed or went up), vimos (we saw), and voltamos (we returned). Keep the subject consistent or name it again if the story becomes hard to follow.
Primeiro, encontramos o guia. Depois, começamos a caminhada.
First, we met the guide. Then, we started the hike.
No final, voltamos ao ponto de encontro.
In the end, we returned to the meeting point.
Add a reaction or a detail you remember
A reaction makes the story personal: gostei do caminho (I liked the route), fiquei cansado/cansada (I got tired), or a vista era bonita (the view was beautiful). Choose details you can describe confidently rather than trying to recount every moment.
If a listener asks about the trail, answer with one concrete point such as duration, weather, or a place you stopped. If you do not know the exact name, say não lembro o nome (I don’t remember the name).
A vista era bonita, mas a subida foi cansativa.
The view was beautiful, but the climb was tiring.
A gente parou para descansar e tirar uma foto.
We stopped to rest and take a photo.
Put it into practice
