A 7-Day Brazilian Portuguese Pronunciation Practice Plan
A focused week of listening and recording can help you notice specific sound patterns without trying to change your entire accent at once.

The short answer
Pronunciation improves more steadily when you listen for one feature at a time. This plan adapts the sound overview in I Speak Portuguese’s pronunciation guide into a seven-day routine. Use Brazilian audio as your reference: English spelling cues can suggest a sound, but they cannot reproduce every accent or the timing of a real sentence.
Practise one sound feature at a time
Choose a few familiar words, listen before reading them aloud, and record one short attempt. You are checking whether the vowel, consonant, or stress pattern is clear—not whether you have eliminated your accent.
não, pão, mão
Practise the nasal vowel in a small word set.
caro, carro
Listen for the difference between a single r and rr.
dia, tia
Notice the common Brazilian sounds of d and t before i.
Follow a simple seven-day sequence
Spend about five minutes on each day. On the final day, repeat the first recording with the same words and compare one target feature. Keep the original recording; it gives you a useful reference for future practice.
Meu filho mora no Brasil.
My son lives in Brazil.
A tia pediu pão e café.
The aunt asked for bread and coffee.
- Day 1: listen for word stress in familiar two- and three-syllable words.
- Day 2: practise the nasal vowel in não, pão, and coração.
- Day 3: compare r and rr in caro and carro.
- Day 4: hear d and t before i in dia and tia.
- Day 5: notice final l in Brasil and papel.
- Day 6: practise the consonant combinations nh and lh in banho and filho.
- Day 7: listen to a short sentence, shadow it, and compare your recordings.
Put it into practice
Use the week as a listening routine, then revisit the individual pronunciation guides when one sound needs more practice. Clear rhythm and understandable vowels matter more than copying one regional accent.
