The short answer
Remarcar a consulta means to reschedule the appointment. Cancelar means to cancel it. Start with your name and the date or time currently booked so staff can locate the correct appointment.
Say that you need to change the appointment
If you do not want to choose a reason, you can simply say that you are unavailable. Keep the message short and ask what times are open.
Tenho uma consulta na quinta-feira, às três, e preciso remarcar.
I have an appointment on Thursday at three, and I need to reschedule.
Não vou conseguir comparecer amanhã. Como posso cancelar?
I won’t be able to attend tomorrow. How can I cancel?
Ask about the next available time
Disponibilidade means availability. Offer one or two days that work for you and ask whether the clinic has a time then. For a provider who is fully booked, ask whether there is a cancellation list, if the office uses one.
Use de manhã or à tarde to give a broad time preference. Confirm the exact date rather than relying only on ‘next Tuesday,’ which can be misunderstood in a later message.
Há algum horário disponível na semana que vem?
Is there any appointment time available next week?
Se possível, prefiro um horário de manhã.
If possible, I’d prefer a morning appointment.
Repeat the new details and confirm any policy
Once staff offers a time, repeat the day, date, and hour to make sure you have the same information. Ask whether you will receive a confirmation by message or email.
Cancellation windows and fees depend on the provider and plan. Ask the clinic to explain its current policy rather than assuming that a change is free or allowed up to a particular time.
