The short answer

Também means ‘also’ or ‘too.’ To say that you share a positive experience or preference, respond with eu também or eu também gosto (I like it too).

Use eu também after a positive statement

Adoro pão de queijo. — Eu também!

I love pão de queijo. — Me too!

Vou viajar em dezembro. — Eu também vou.

I’m traveling in December. — I am too.

Use eu também não after a negative statement

When agreeing with a negative statement, say eu também não (I don’t either). Keep the negative não in your reply.

Não gosto de acordar cedo. — Eu também não.

I don’t like waking up early. — Me neither.

Ele não conhece o bairro. — Eu também não conheço.

He doesn’t know the neighborhood. — I don’t either.

Use nem eu for a short ‘me neither’

Nem eu is a concise, casual way to agree with a negative statement. Use it when the missing verb is obvious from the previous sentence.

Não entendi a pergunta. — Nem eu.

I didn’t understand the question. — Me neither.

A gente não tem ingresso. — Nós também não.

We don’t have tickets. — Neither do we.

Put it into practice

Use eu também with an affirmative idea and eu também não or nem eu to agree with a negative one.
